IU Baseball 2025

Yesterday was my selected date to watch a game in the suite with 3 guests.  Originally first pitch was set for 6pm but got a text from VC Wednesday saying that because BTN had decided to televise the game the first pitch was moved up to 5pm.  No problem, we just moved our departure time from Columbus up by an hour.  Then, yesterday morning got another text saying that due to bad weather Friday that game was being moved to 1pm yesterday as game one of a double header with the 2nd game starting 30 minutes after conclusion of game 1.  Those who had been invited to watch Friday's game in the suite were invited to attend game 1 yesterday. My group arrived at 4 just after the first game ended but because BTN TV time was set the 2nd game didn't start til 5.  No problem as we had a good time having food & beverage and were treated to IU bats FINALLY coming to life in game 2 and we clinched a spot in the BTT with that win.

It was announced that the rubber game/Senior appreciation day would be at 2pm on Saturday.  It now appears that the game has been rescheduled to this evening at 6pm instead.  I suppose Saturday suite invitees will now be invited to come this evening instead.  It's critical to BTT seeding that all remaining games get played and it's a TOUGH task to plan around Mother nature!

Go Hoosiers!!!!!!!

I will say--- that moving the two games to yesterday and another game today DIRECTLY benefits IU and Michigan, for that matter.

Bothwell or Foley will start game 1 on Tues/Wed and the other will throw game 2. That's huge.

True.  The IU pitching yesterday was definitely sufficient for a DH sweep - unfortunately the hitting only showed up for game 2.  We were listening to the first game on the way to Bloomington and it sounded like a sure IU double (can't remember the batter) was called foul but the announcer said it hit the chalk.  Could have been a difference maker but just left too many runners on base.

I think the lack of midweeks the past month has created issues for our hitters. Terrible time to go in a slump. The pitching the last month has been really good.

IU wins game 3, 8-4 and that is a series win.  That clinches at least a top four seed in the standings if I’m not mistaken, with the possibility of a 3 seed???

Radio announcers said we clinched the 3 seed but I will wait for confirmation. The B10 hasn’t updated standings or scores from today which is frustrating.

So Purdue lost again to Illinois tonight and that puts the boilers at 13-10 with one more game vs Illini tomorrow. Even with a win they end up 14-10 vs our 15x9 so there’s nobody else that can pass us at #3 in the B10 standings. Illini in the driver’s seat for regular season title unless they lose to Purdue tomorrow and Nebraska sweeps MSU tomorrow. Then it’s a tie at the top and I don’t care enough to check tie breakers.

Go Hoosiers!!!!

If Purdue wins tomorrow they're the 6 seed, and we play them.

If they lose, we play Ohio state.

Forgot the OSU loss stipulation...

We play Purdue 11AM Tuesday. I'm curious if Purdue sits their #3 starter today and throws him against us?

Or maybe go with their Friday night guy (who threw Thursday night)... 97 pitches.

Our bullpen is abysmal so I think we’ll go with our best starter tbh.

  • 2 weeks later...

I'm going to go ahead and double down on Mercer...

For my explanation?

Ohio State's baseball coach just left to be TCUs assistant/lead hitting coach.

Ohio State was playing good play/ended with a good RPI.

Now-- maybe this coach has family, other circumstances, whatever that "forces" him to be in TX.. if that's the case, props to him for taking care of the most important things first...

But, if he left because he views an Asst in B12 is > than B10 HC (at the most prosperous Ath dept in the country)... that's either ugly for the B10 or ugly for OSU... or both.

I don't feel Mercer is "perfect" but his decisions, whatever have put us in position to make a regional final, have great moments against good teams, get GREAT skill position guys.. and some awesome pitchers-- McCade Brown, Tanner Gordon, Gabe Bierman, Foley, Sinnard, and a few others..

Hell we've been ranked lol

-----------

Ultimately--- flat out do not think we can find a better overall fit than Mercer, plus... I freaking want the guy. He's 38 years old a born Hoosier. I also do not think, in any way shape or form, his job is even in question...

Guys this is NOT an equal sport. Its just not for northern teams. Every single school, outside of TX, is from the southeast.

-------------

So outside of throwing considerable more money at baseball, we currently rank 48th in baseball spending...

Hands down our best bet is to continue with our very good recruiting(Top B1G FR class multiple times) and work to develop.

This season, I stated a couple weeks ago, after the draw, I was going to go into detail...

This specific year, UK an UT both had a great shot at hosting, so outside of us hosting.. we were always going to UT (can't play in the same regional two years in a row)...

I firmly believe had we had Sinnard on Fridays, Foleys Sat, Grable/Bothwell Sundays--- Buhr, ADP, Grable/Bothwell, Kraft, Risedorph, Bohnert out of the pen.. we would have rolled through the B10. This would have allowed us to have had  pitching depth on Midweeks too. We played REALLY good ball from Butler on. ECU hosted at #16, AZ/OR St.. we could have had a better resume than all of those and Dolson was on the committee.

Tibbitts would have brought so much to the table when our offense sputtered.. we saw that in B10 tourney and regional.

Some will say "would've, could've, should've"...

Sure thats fine, I get it... buuuut--- us being in that type of spot, with that talent is the first step. Mercer and Glant being able to have that type of talent on our roster, all at once... is VERY good as a Hoosier fan. Find ways to be healthy, build more depth, learn from mistakes.

Again OHIO STATES HC left for an asst job... be thankful for Mercer.

I certainly agree with you on Mercer.  I would ask, though, what your opinion is of the pitching coach.  I know we've had injuries, and I don't follow baseball recruiting like you do, but it seems we've recruited some fairly highly ranked pitchers that too many times haven't lived up to their ranking.  Is that a fair assessment?
