Until the trade deadline....Cubs have been moving Ben Leeper up very, very quickly. After the last couple of years every move I'm looking at I'm dissecting three times on what it actually means. I could see us moving Kimbrel come end of July and calling this kid up.

Will be interesting to see if any one of the Brewers/Cards/Cubs make legit moves to try to go for the division before the deadline.

Never understood why teams wait until the deadline to make trades. Why not go out and get players to fill holes in your lineup now. Reds only reliable bullpen arm in Antone was put on the DL. Reds wins tonight 11-5 and hit 5 homers. Wanted to see them get the homer cycle but came a grand slam short of it. They had 3 at bats with the bases loaded but no grand slams. 2 solo homers. 2 2 run homers. 1 3 run homer

For some unknown reason you left the Reds out of your post. Ya know, the team that recently kicked your arsz. "LOL" Well I see that Tony Santillan is gonna make a start for Cincy on Sunday. He has been having a good year at AAA. https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=santil000ant And I keep waiting for the Reds to call up Nick Lodolo: https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=lodolo000nic And Hunter Greene: https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=greene000hun
Seeking6
We'll see what the Brewers are made of later on in the summer. Saw this on twitter this morning. Their Aug/Sept schedules are full of playoff teams. The Cubs had an easy May, so I am not complaining, but noting that from May 29-July 4, the Brewers play: Nats (3), Tigers (2), Reds (6), Pirates (7), Diamondbacks (7), Rockies (7), and Cubs (3). I'd say most of the time it's the optimism factor. If you think your team is going to be in the hunt for a playoff spot, you're going to be a buyer. If not, your a seller. Takes time during the season to determine that. Also, the urgency on both sides to negotiate in earnest isn't going to be there until the deadline for both buyers and sellers. If you're trying to shed payroll, you're asking price is coming down the closet the deadline gets.

He came out yesterday saying he's one of the guys who has chosen not to be vaccinated. Obviously there's going to be blowback not only from fans....but his teammates because they have to do certain protocols until 85% rate is hit. He cited personal reasons. Not sure if that's because of being a former cancer survivor.....or maybe he's just saying I'm a young world class athlete and I don't need it. I bring this up because Jed was not happy at all with Cubs players who chose not to be vaccinated. Could be something to watch as we approach trade deadline. I can see it now. Cubs trade Rizzo because he won't get vaccinated! Haha. 1

For the Cardinals, they should have plenty of guys coming back from injury so I’m sure cautious optimism plays a role too. IU Scott
Right now the Reds have 11 players on the DL so I don't want to hear the Cardinals excuses

Seeking6
Maybe it's the scar of my youth but when I see those powder blue road jerseys for Cardinals all I see is Coleman, Herr, McGee, Clark,etc.... But the very best day of the powder blues for Cardinals was when Bruce served it up a few times in the Sandberg game.

You mean like the one we traded away this off season for $5? Cubs are playing/executing extremely well no doubt....but this isn't a very good team. Of course by the looks of things you don't have to be very good to win the NL Central.
5fouls
Conversation overheard at the grocery this morning. Young Boy: "Dad, which baseball team has lost more games this year, the Reds or the Cardinals?" Father: "The Cardinals have lost more." Young Boy: "Wow. So the Cardinals are even bigger losers than the Reds?" Father: "Yep. I guess they are." 1
