Ah, I thought it was imperial ipa.   Maybe the stout brings in some nice gut bacteria. 🤔

Not a big IPA guy, but the place we ate at yesterday has a pretty good one that I have from time to time...Yellow Rose from Lone Pint brewery...

More a Porter, Bock, Wheat, and Scottish Ale fan...Most of my favorites you can only get in the Midwest though...

The wineries were awesome. Stopped at 6 wineries. Did 4 tastings. Brought home 4 bottles. Groot Constantia is the oldest in the country dating back to the 1600s. Napoleon drank their wine! Some of these wineries were incredible. Never been to Napa Valley but might have to check it out for a comparison now.

Drank a lot of beer in South Africa. Nothing struck me as all that great. Carling Black Label is their Budweiser. Stopped at a few brewpubs.

Awesome trip! Too bad the beer wasn't better, but there's always fun and worth in trying new things. Every brewpub has it's own charm.

So what about the food? Did you have any Bildong on your hikes? How about BOBOTIE or bunny chow? When I’ve traveled before I always wanted to have some of the local cuisine. Well except for England maybe?🤔

It was an epic trip. My wife bought a pint glass from Shackleton that has a penguin on it. I've already been told not to use that one when guests come over. Strictly for her.

The food was awesome. Funny thing was my first meal there was KFC at midnight. After traveling for a day we said we were hungry and that is what they picked up, lol.

Had 4 braiis. Grilled fish, steak, lamb, etc was all great. Had some Biltong, springbok carpoccio, poikie and some other stuff. Didn't try the bobotie. The fish and especially the calamari were really good. The cool thing is food is really cheap there due to the strength of the $. Had Chateaubriand (which was excellent!) for like $20.

Housing is also cheap due to so many people leaving the country. If it wasn't half way around the world and had reliable utilities and medical care, it would be a great place to retire.

Sounds awesome! Remember going to KFC in Russia and they had beer on tap!

Alright, didn't want to start a new thread for this.   I got a question...

In the 80's there was a dance club at Dunnkirk Square on Kirkwood.  Anybody remember the name?  BW3 took its place maybe around 88 or 89.  If I remember right there was a big dance floor downstairs and it had an upstairs were you could look down and see everyone.  Pretty sure test tube shots were a big deal there.  Haha

Hmmm.  I don't think so.  The Gables is the building on Indiana where BuffaLouis is now.   This place was at the back part of Dunnkirk Square.  There's a Ramen place in there now.

Back in the 80's Roscoe Records was upstairs next to it.  Then the Penquin ice cream was upfront.

Ah, only 9.5% ABV...The label musta been blurry :)

I used to enjoy Russian River Old Rasputin, Samuel Smith oatmeal and chocolate stout, and Three Floyd's Moloko.

This combo you posted looks wild.

next door to Upstairs/Jimmy Johns?  Above ZnC?   Across from Roys?

If so, this was just called Dunnkirk when I was there (graduated 2015).  I believe this was a bar Cuban owned when he was at IU.  The name has changed, it even turned into an under 21 club for a bit.

Met my brother and his family at https://www.hailstormbrewing.com/ this past weekend. 3 of us sampled flights and all agreed they had a wide range of good beers

In case you get to the Ann Arbor area this weekend?

Michigan Beer Festival Ypsilanti
