BGleas
Chiming in late here on the topic, but on the point about Jordan playing crap teams in the Finals, I'll give you guys the Spurs and the Warriors, but Phoenix, Utah and probably Portland are all better than the Dallas team that beat Miami and the OKC team that Miami beat. On the Jordan vs. LeBron debate in general, this is the first time I've been willing to entertain it. But what LeBron is doing in the playoffs this year is insane. I'd still lean to Jordan, but the debate is razor thin. This team LeBron is about to drag to the Finals is hot garbage. He's lucked out a bit because the Raptors are a joke and Boston is injured, but still what he's done this playoffs is absolutely incredible. They got gears when the chips are down. And you left off Seattle. Jordan's teams played quality opponents.

That may be, but unlike the "Craptors" the Sonics made it to the finals. That Seattle team was pretty darn good and actually gave the Bulls match-up issues. If you call Durant's move that, what word do you have for what Kawhi has going on right now? As far as where KD ranks all time, I'm seeing too much love given to players from 40 years ago. The 15th best player from 1980 is not better than the 2nd best player today. If he had not done so before, LeBron has passed MJ as the greatest ever this season. LBJ has MJ on size and strength. Mj's peak season in rebounds and assists is an average season for LBJ. As far as championships, MJ consistently had a better team around him in a less competitive NBA.

Less competitive perhaps........but MJ did have players around him that don't get credit for what they brought to the table. Role players that did their job. Durant joined the team he could not beat, after choking away a 3-1 West Con Finals lead. Everyone recognized it for exactly what it was - a wimp move. i’m sorry, what’s the comparison to Kawhi? There is no comparison. He has an injury that his docs have diagnosed differently than the Spurs docs and so they’ve had a disagreement over his decision not to play. Meanwhile all signs point (according to those in the know) to the Spurs working this out with him over the summer. What, you think he’s joining the Warriors?? Literally no comparison at all. i agree about Durant — in any era he would be one of the best. Still can’t stand him, still doesn’t change his wimp move. With MJ v LeBron, it’s really about individual judgment at this point imo. MJ was simply unstoppable during that run, which of course included time off for his little baseball experiment. Reggie would have at least one ring but for Jordan (then Shaq/Kobe). Jordan ripped your throat out as a player - Barkley, who at the time was a monster player, was flat out beaten by MJ in those playoffs and to this day acknowledges he was simply better than anyone else on the floor at the time. LeBron is much more like Magic as a player, which is for me a big part of the difficulty in comparing them. Kobe was like Mike, and Mike was better. LeBron is not like Mike, he’s his own thing, and maybe the GOAT, but I think that’s ultimately just a judgment call

I totally disagree about the NBA being less competitive back then because I think the NBA is not very competitive right now.

Scott, it is all subjective. Like me, I feel sorry for those Celtics teams of the 80's. The East was stacked. The Lakers really didn't have any competition but they screwed up a few times. The Bulls had no competition in the East save the Pacers. The West was a shoot out.

No way in the world I think Durant ends even in top 30 conversation (if he continues same clip). Why is that a big factor for you? That line of thinking is a silly macho man egotistical way of thinking that annoys me. He’s a grown man with his own life to lead. He owes nothing to anyone. Why does he have to force himself to be miserable and stick to a losing situation where he doesn’t like his coach or his teammates just to look like a competitor to you? Does anyone look happy with Westbrook? George, kd, melo, Ibaka, harden, oladipo? You wanna love in a city where there’s not much room for financial growth or live in the hotbed of growth that’s Silicon Valley? You wanna play on a team that’s not fun to play with or play with a team that could go down as the best that’s ever been and win 2-7 titles? There’s free agency for a reason. You don’t have to stay in a shitty situation just to look like a tough guy. That’s nonsense. It’s not a chickenshit move it’s logical, legal, and even admirable because he’ll be vilified when he shouldn’t be. Like I said to each there own and if that’s your line of thinking then fine but personally I think it’s extremely archaic. Respectfully disagree here of course. @Hoosierhoopster
dbmhoosier
Lebron is not the GOAT. The honor goes to MJ by a mile. I'd take Bird or Kobe over Lebron. Edited May 27, 2018 by dbmhoosier
ADegenerate
People talk out of both sides of their mouth on this one too. You get crapped on if you don’t win titles. You get crapped on if you leave and win a title. It’s absurd. I’d call it ambition by leaving and trying to win while bettering your life.
