So going back to this for a minute...

image.thumb.png.d7adfc90a29cb725284223a35a71f03d.png

I can buy Purdue in the top tier...3 starters coming back, a couple of guys in Heide and Colvin that could make a jump, and a decent freshman class...

But Illinois? Especially over UCLA...So just to summarize...

image.png.6f0316eaec9f0d1b74560e6c2d33e490.pngimage.png.6562ee7b34982591a68df05f4f70d9a8.png

image.thumb.png.69ff210e2a3916021e5668bb25e35ea3.png

I like Ty Rodgers as a player...Have ever since Underwood put him on TJD to get dunks bounced off his noggin when we were blowing them out in Champaign when Rodgers was a freshman...But he was the lowest scorer of the starters, and he's got a limited offensive game...Motor's there, though...

And I guess Katz thinks Kylan Boswell is going to be a top shelf PG, but in 2 games against Myles Rice, Myles outscored him 23-5...and in one game against Kanaan Carlyle (KC was injured for the second Stanford-Arizona game) Carlyle outscored Boswell 28-6 :o I know Arizona had a lot of offensive firepower, but come on...

I know they have the two Euro kids coming in, but they, along with Morez Johnson and Will Riley are gonna have to be dynamite, and we all know how freshmen are...

I'd like to see some justification for having Illinois that high...

That is an exceptionally well-thought and referenced argument. Tough to debate what you cited. And Underwood doesn't exactly seem to build cohesive teams either. You never know anymore with the portal and NIL, but I have to agree with you.

I think a lot of question marks have to be straightened into exclamation points for the Illini to contend...

The biggest homer on BTN thinks Trey Kaufman-Renn will be All Big 10...

His footwork is “suspect “….. seems to me out of control with it and shuffles a lot.

I think TKR is a solid player...But with all of the quality bigs in the league, and the up and comers, I just don't see him as All Conference...

It's Andy Katz, not exactly a deep thinker. And in the portal/NIL era preseason projections are more worthless than usual.

Simple explanation, Illinois has a bunch of talent and Brad has averaged almost 14 conference wins over the past 5 seasons so it's a reasonable bet.

The last 5 seasons you guys have had at least one of Shannon, Ayo, or Cockburn. I think that has a lot to do with your recent big ten success, and not sure you guys have the caliber of player this year.

Along with Mayer and Domask...

As you said, Underwood has always had the luxury of guys who could get theirs when the team needed it...

Not sure I see one of those in this years group...

Yes, this is true. But we're talking about preseason prognostications here and like I said, not sure that depth of thought has gone into them. Every team has a lot of questions right now.

And a year ago a lot of Illini fans thought Goode should start instead of Domask...

Perhaps, but there was a ton of blue and red in that conference listing you posted. The 4 P12 programs are having to adjust to a new league. Washington, USC, Ohio St and Michigan have new coaches. Some teams like MSU maybe *should* have more questions because the answers they have haven't been all that great.

Right now I'd guess Boswell, Jakucionis, Humrichous, Ivisic and Rodgers start. But could also see Riley or White in place of Ty.
