We still need to fill the 13th scholarship with a "SPECIALIST" (i.e. 3 pt shooter even if they can't play great defense

but can spread the floor in situations where we need a 3 pt shot; OR someone who can handle the ball and shoots

above 80% free throws to put in the last minutes of games where we have the lead and the other team has to foul;

OR someone who can protect the rim/block a shot/get a key rebound at the end of the game). We made a HUGE mistake

not filling the 13th scholarship last year - PLEASE DON'T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE AGAIN THIS YEAR WOODY - GO HOOSIERS!

Wonder where he's getting his info from? Ah, well...I listened just because I'm hard up for info on this team 🙂

This guy and Coyle try too hard to sound like "radio guy" that comes to the pros like Don Fischer naturally...

It's too hard for me to watch with the over-the-top 'radio guy' annunciation. The Locked On guy before sounded like he was falling asleep, so I was intrigued when he took over, but this one needs to ease up on the caffeine. LOL.

I also don't think he has many connections - he's from and broadcasts from Alabama or Georgia or something, with no history as an IU fan. Probably just getting info from message boards or the Trilly discord like many of the other message board 'insiders'.

Some comments on Mgbako, Rice and Carlisle in here. Luke thinks this a championship team

I am bored to tears by 99% of player interviews, but this one is quite good.

@The Daily Hoosier follows up with a "Cliffs Notes" version...

I thought this was interesting...

“I think we have a real chance to put it all together. Coach Woodson, I know he gets a lot of hate, but I think he’s one of the better coaches I’ve been coached by already. So he knows what he’s doing, he really respects relationships and everybody loves to play for him"

Well, I would want to know two more things; how many 3s did IU shoot when he was on the floor, and how many did they give up when he was on the floor versus when he was not on the floor ?

Quality of shot trumps everything offensively--- clearly we get better shots from 3 with Malik on the court... and Malik himself is an efficient offensive player scoring the ball (some TO and ball movement issues)-- eFG% 57%+ which was 4th in the B1G and on par with TJDs JR/SR year

1st percentile in 3pt fg% seems to be pretty loud 🤷‍♂️

We couldn't produce quality looks from 3 with him off the court. Speaks to his ability to distribute and drawl defenders (gravity)...

And speaks to our lack of depth.

As talented as Carlyle can be and as imposing as Ballo is, it’s Rice who excites me the most out of the new players.  He will control the ball and set the tempo.  He seems to be very savvy and will fix our biggest weakness.  He knows how to change speeds, get the defender on his hip, etc.  He looks to be smart, competitive and apparently can lead.

I've been an Indiana fan for about 20 years now, and I'm almost certain Rice is the second best point guard we've had, and pretty convinced he's the second best guard overall. He's going to make this team so much different than last year's.

He has yet to play a game and he is better than all but one of names like Ferrell, Gordon, Hulls, Johnson, Coverdale, Blackmon, Wright? That's mighty high expectations.

Good watch.  I also see the link to the Noah Vonleh situation.  Holy crap that is scary.  After 12 seasons in the NBA he needs to just get the hell back to the states before something really bad happems.

ESPN tells me he has played 36 games.

Furthermore-- of that list-- Yogi and Coverdale are the only point guards.

And, I assume, you think Yogi is the one ahead of him? Makes sense to me.

Correct.

I just went back to check Gordon's stats, and his numbers plus the team's record are both better than I thought. I don't know if I can put Rice over Gordon. I don't see anyone else even belonging in the conversation, though.

JHS was a lottery pick, Isiah Thomas, Yogi is the all time leader in assist. Pretty bold statement. Gordon wasn’t a PG.

Go back and read my post. JHS is the only one that pertains. Rice's freshman numbers are very similar, but mostly better than JHS', and we get Rice as a sophomore.

Gordons way ahead of him. He just wasn't a PG.

I do really like Rice tho. I remember watching him in the tourney I believe and being very impressed before IU had showed any interest at that point. Our guards should be very fun to watch. Hopefully they get used properly and we don’t play to big and throw it in the post 80 percent of the time. Would love to go small a lot more with Mack and Goode at the 4. We would be incredibly hard to defend.
