Informative article.  Just like Haralson, a lot of damning stuff for IU.

Mullins should not get any blowback in state because it’s not fault that IU is not up to snuff.

Mullins said relationships with Hurley and UConn assistant Luke Murray were especially important to securing his commitment. He said he also built a strong relationship with IU assistant Brian Walsh during the process.

“Coach Hurley was the head coach I heard from the most,” Mullins said. “And honestly, that’s who you are playing for so hearing from him was definitely a big part of it.”

If we can get out from under Woody at the end of the season, the new coach should work back channels on Mullins immediately.  In the portal era, anything can happen.  If I’m Hurley, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that we keep Woody on this one.

I wouldn’t count on any of this materializing but we are not talking about impossibilities.  These aren’t IU issues.  These are Woody issues.

I just don't understand the model. It's absurd.

How many times did these coaches need to visit a 17yr old? lol ....idk. I am around young people all day, every day... I can't imagine trying to pamper one like that.

Must suck so bad that back to back national champion coach gave up the most lucrative coaching deal in the world with the Lakers to do it…and do it well at that. Literally working his butt off…making Woody look like a fool…you have a commitment in McNeely…yeah I’ll take him from you…been recruiting a hometown kid for 3 years since you been there…take him too…made Woody his b1tch on and off the court….i mean humiliated him when he faced us…smack talked about how unafraid our uninspiring offense and team was and then took every good player we wanted. Its a joke…Woody is a joke…we bought him a team and I guess we will see if he can coach the best team money can buy but if he can’t do that…well he signed his own resignation imo.

Love everything you bring to the board so don't take this the wrong way.  It doesn't take a linguistic forensic expert (Unabomber case) to figure out where the "we" was used and not. We took a choice, went through AAU and see what we've got...and spare me the we've been watching him since the beginning of his Junior year on video. A quick G search can show he wasn't aware of the kid until this past Spring.

I'll say the same thing. Darn Lakers. Either way. Kid is dead to me. Wish him luck and that's about all I have anymore on the local kids.

It’s pretty telling that he’s complimenting Walsh but not Woody.  That’s very consistent with what I have heard behind the scenes in general.  Walsh does his best but he can’t overcome Woody.

All the respect in the world again to you as well....but Kyle N isn't the biggest IU fan. Take his angles with a grain of salt.

That’s actually false. Hurley started calling Greenfield Central about him during his junior basketball season. Hurley just wasn’t sure if he was going to pursue and when he did he went all in.

I will neither confirm nor deny

This time is just feels like the timing makes a lot more sense and I believe before we hired Woodson he was pretty interested but family and wanting to finish off with a ring in Boston kept him there and I understand that. Times have changed now he’s made all the money he needs but there’s only one thing left to fulfill and that the head guy at IU and I’m pretty sure that holds some weight to him. I also like Scott a lot and think he and Brad can connect and make it happen.

I’m sorry but it’s the same song and dance over and over. When it comes to Woodson and his recruiting it’s pretty simple. "Fool me once, shame on you. “Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me three times, and well I’m just a complete idiot.” Woodson is who he is and it’s not going to change.

So just I make sure. Coming off of title Hurley was calling a kid in Greenfield, Indiana that wasn't even in the top 150 at the time? Shoot I can make a 100 cold calls in two hours and come back and look like I'm a prophecy.

Again all the respect in the world for what you bring but I thought the reason things turned South for Woodson was because he didn't show up at Sectionals on a Wednesday night? Assuming that was just the local easy crap concept...

Respect your view and it’s important that you bring it.  I’m a big fan of your posting.

You must catch me on my good posts. Sometimes I'm not a really good poster at all. I'm loyal to IU to a fault. Almost like Harvey Updike and Bama.

Brad was going to take the job last time. That’s why the boosters got excited and jumped the gun. The family voted however and back then it was a 3-1 vote to stay in Boston. Fast forward and Brad has now crossed one item off his bucket list winning a championship. He wants to coach again and his son is already back in Indiana.

I'd say that ship is sailed. The search should start and end with Micah Shrewsberry.

I like Shrews if Brad doesn’t work out. I’m basically completely over Woodson and ready for this to be over unless somehow he wins big this year which i just don’t see him being able to do it.

I get being upset about Mullins and Harrelson but it isn't the end of the world as well. I am to.the point I am tired of these entitled kids and if they don't want to be here then don't let the door hit you on your ass on the way out.

Entitled is a coach living off a 40 year old legacy of his playing days at a program that was not built by him but another legendary coach who hasn’t been part of the school in 25 years (coinciding with a program also not being relevant for that length of time). I’ll be honest…from my vantage point Woody comes off lazy…he likes that accolades and hearing his name…heck he even speaks in third person wtf is that?? He doesn’t build relationships…doesn’t maintain them…and wants a quick fix in the portal…wants old players doesn’t want to coach up kids…or connect or anything like that. Him and his sleepy friends don’t relate to these kids…he doesn’t connect and that’s why he struggles to motivate them. I’ll be honest…he is Knight post 95…we need Knight 75. No energy in this man and no energy in the program. I can see why he connects with parents as he is a great mentor to these kids but when it comes to doing the other 95% of the job get me someone else. Woody should be an Ambassador to the program…not running it.

Hurley was doing due diligence during last basketball season. That’s just a fact.

Yupp. it just feels right and I have had this feeling ever since Boston won it in June.

Personally I just don't really see the difference. HS kids can leave after a year just like anyone else. If you think the drawn out recruiting process somehow vets the personality of the kid or his ability, I suppose that would be the benefit. But what's really the difference between recruiting a high school kid (one and done? two and done?) versus recruiting a sophomore, junior or senior who may or may not play one, two, three years four years? I really don't fundamentally see why it matters unless you are literally replacing the entire roster every year. I really think the best approach is getting a couple of high school kids and then using the portal.

You want to build continuity in your program if you want consistency and success. Imagine turning over over half your workforce? Be a disaster. You want people to be there for several years to help teach the way you do things, show others what’s acceptable and how to behave and your work ethic (culture), it is much easier to recruit and keep your own (if your a good coach) once you have them in your program. You don’t think Trey Galloway or TJD couldn’t have gone elsewhere for more playing time or a bigger role or to improve draft stock etc…they stay because they fall in love with the program and the people. Sure you would like to have a couple portal guys to fill the missing pieces in your roster and sure you want a OAD or 2AD skill level player but the backbone and most important players are ones that spend 3-4 years in your program…the jump in production is off the charts…especially when they can help you teach your offense and defense to the others…talk out on the floor and become leaders in the locker room…it isn’t easy to bring in an outsider and instantly elevate them to captain and vocal leader…you are just as likely to bring in a knucklehead that will ruin your locker room as that.
