To think it was split between two perimeter players that aren't all that special is criminal.
ButlerHoosier
Ugh just wouldn't go away! Great win guys! Time to break down PSU film and get ready for them. I hope they have really tired legs. Race needs to find his head it didn't travel with him. He literally almost lost that game single handedly. Here's to hoping OSU has another upset in them. They are desperate and literally playing for their NCAA tourney life. Puck Furdue! May they play the worst game of the year. Also gotta enjoy watching TJD and JHS cause it will be a long while before we get another 1 2 punch like this.
BGleas
Kopp was also phenomenal defensively in the 2nd half, and JHS locked up their guard. Just a great 2nd half effort.
IUguy
Well I kept my word and shut up after my last post in the other thread. Good win after a rough first half. Next is Penn State (I actually wanted NW). Last time they hit, what, 18 threes? Obviously, defend like they did in the second half tonight. Hold onto the ball, make some shots, both in and out, do not allow too many offensive rebounds and second chances, and hit over 75% of free throws and all should be well. Bodes well for him and the future. When Bates hit that 3 to put us up by double digits the first time I was thrilled and extremely happy for the dude but honestly I was more happy with the defense he played.
Hoosierfan1215
Making a few shots and transition helped. Our defense stepped up so much. Not letting them have open looks, better rotations, and boxing out was so much better. 4

Popular Post Steubenhoosier
Other than the obvious between TJD and JHS, I think it was huge that Malik could play so well and not get in foul trouble. If he can continue to do that going forward, it will make this team so much better in the tournament

He was additive on defense. If he does that, then it allows him to settle in offensively and find a groove.
Euroclydon
Hopefully they make psu work as hard in the first half as they did maryland tonight. You want them to have no legs in the second half.

If he can continue to do that going forward, it will make this team so much better in the tournament It seems so simple for both Reneau and Bates, yet it's so difficult for them sometimes. Reneau - don't foul, don't turn it over and rebound. Everything else is gravy. Bates - play hard on defense and don't take wild shots. Then he has time to get into the flow offensively. If both focus on those things then they're starter quality coming off the bench. When both don't do those things then they're almost unplayable.

Between2Halls
JHS and Malik didn’t look like freshmen on the big stage. Their Montverde experience shows IMO. Let’s keep that pipeline flowing, please.

MoyeCowbell
The more we play, the better it is for everyone. This experience playing (and hopefully thriving) under pressure is invaluable and literally a solid foundational building block for championship level culture. You gotta think Bates has been doing everything he can this season to put in the positive defensive games he has lately. I hope he can continue to improve his defense and continue to hit big shots like these. Edited March 11, 2023 by SawatchHoosier

We gave up a ton of offensive boards in the first half. In the 2nd we largely held them to 1 shot. We're a much better rebounding team with TJD/Reneau together.

As long as he moves his feet and keeps his hands away. I love those two together. They really control the paint so well.
