He is supposed to be here today, but now sure the time frame. He needs to see and feel some Hoosier Hospitality today from fans that are out and about. I would love to see pics from fans in town today, if they can spot him! Hopefully, if Woodson is up to it, he can take him out to Buffalouies, Nicks to eat.

Hope Woody is able to get out… it’s been a couple of weeks since his surgery, so he should be able to handle the visit.

Ok. But that didn't answer my question. We have a compliance office/ppl who handle this kind of stuff, yeah?

But regardless, I don't think that had anything to do with those recruitments.

If I had zero ties to Indiana or Tennessee.... grew up in Colorado or New York, I think I would lean Tennessee as a destination to go to college, instead of Bloomington. Now... as far as what Woodson and staff can do for me, that might be a bigger draw...

I don't think anyone wants to admit that maybe kids would just rather go to Tennessee to college than Indiana.

And the fact these guys with only one year left want to make the biggest splash possible, so they’ll go to the school where they think that’s possible. Remember, the ultimate goal for all these guys is the NBA, not medical school. In Ware’s case, he may have wanted to be coached/developed, since he has three years left, so he chose IU and CMW.

Nobody at Arkansas or UT cares about hoops. Back in the early to mid 2000s I used to travel to and through Knoxville for work and made several acquaintances with UT people. Women’s hoops was the only basketball those people cared about and they still had Philip Fulmer as their football coach.

Same thing with Arkansas. I vacation down in the Ozarks for a few weeks every August and it is heavy Arkansas land down there in several areas. Fans at both those schools would flat tell you they’d shut down their basketball programs if it meant having an elite football team every year.

Fans at both schools respect having good basketball teams, especially when their football teams struggle (UT may have found something w Heupel), but at the end of the day the basketball support at those schools doesn’t hold a candle to the support at a place like IU. You’ll never see a UT or Ark basketball player get an NIL deal like TJD. Hell out 13th scholarship player Anthony Leal is making more than many of their starters.

At the end of the day, recruiting comes down to selling a vision. I believe both Musselman and Barnes are getting it done over our current staff and the results certainly don’t lie. You can use facilities, style of play, scenery, etc as excuses all you want, but at the end of the day it simply comes down to selling a vision.

Facilities aren’t the issue. I’ve been to Cameron Indoor several times, and it’s nothing more than a glorified HS gym. If facilities were the issue, then Duke wouldn’t be able to field a team. I agree, you have to sell the program.

Not to get into some positional back and forth, but there is a difference between a sharpshooter and bucket-getters/creators, especially with this fanbase.

When many Indiana fans say "sharpshooter" they're thinking of a certain type of player. Guys like Matt Roth and Nick Zeisloft for example. Would I take those guys? Sure. But that's not the biggest need. I love Zeisloft in his two years at IU, but a Zeisloft is easy to guard when he's not surrounded by guys like Yogi, Thomas Bryant, Troy Williams, Robert Johnson and James Blackmon Jr.

The biggest need on this roster right now are guards/wings that are three-level scorers that can create, beat guys off the dribble and finish or create, and make things happen. Not spot up 3pt shooters and that is the distinction I was drawing.

Agree on the freshmen point, we have solid young players, we need proven guys to add to the roster at this point.

I agree, we need a 3-level scorer on the wing, so I’m not that disappointed with the lose of Ledlum. He was obviously a priority by the coaching staff, but from the film I saw, he didn’t look to be a difference maker. I’m sure there are others out there just as talented, and I’m confident we’ll land one soon.

Well said. As of right now I don’t really know who will be the go to guy so to speak. Like you said, no single person is gonna replace TJD. It will be interesting to see who steps up and who might surprise us and fulfill a larger role than expected.

    Banks, plus another impact transfer.

    Gang,

Let's get the NIL discussion over to the dedicated thread for that topic.

    https://www.hoosiersportsnation.com/topic/11375-iu-nil/

It's a good discussion, but let's leave this thread to actual transfer comings and goings.

I didn’t see your post before I responded, so my apologies. It’s just been slow since Ware’s commitment, so I guess I got a little sidetracked.

To me that story just showcases how silly the old rules were.

Bottom line: This benefits the athletes. They work their a$$es off so that students and alumni can be entertained watching them represent the university. Why shouldn’t they be able to make a little money doing that?

I respect your opinion, and it’s probably a generational thing, but I prefer the traditional system based on the student/athlete model. With the introduction of the transfer portal and NIL, it just seems college athletes are turning into free agents, and the sport is becoming a business, with little emphasis on education and commitment to a particular school. In my son’s case, he was a can’t miss prospect, but because of injuries he didn’t make it to the next level, so we’re very grateful for his continued education that was in part made possible by his scholarship.

We just look at it differently, and that’s OK.

Remember when getting a free education was payment enough to play college ball, those were the days

My youngest son was an All-American and a top 20 prospect in his sport coming out of HS, and had to be careful about even signing autographs that could violate NCAA rules. Basically, he couldn’t profit from anything as an amateur athlete or risk his eligibility.
The trade off was a scholarship and a great education, which has served him well. Hard to believe how far college athletics has slipped in just a few short years.

Banks is taller and way more skilled than JG. Banks will probably play the 3 at some point. Agree IU does need wing help.

Banks has the potential to be a really good 4, and has good hands and a nose for the ball when rebounding. Geronimo had neither, but was a great athlete. I wouldn’t surprised to see some NFL teams approach him as a project at tight end.

I think we have had pics posted online of other players in iu gear that didn't end up at iu.   It is cool and showing off a bit.

Anyway, it is a good sign but I don't think it means anything is definite.

Although I would still guess he is coming here

The biggest news is his cancelled trip to Alabama, not the picture.
