First game for him this year. I think we forget that it takes kids a while to find their place. Those guys who were a part of the great teams in the early 90's took their lumps early in their careers. We just don't have much patience with kids anymore. If they aren't great early, we just seem to write them off. Give Banks and Gunn a bit to settle in. They might just surprise us.
Daryl Thomas of the 1987 national champions is a perfect example of this. He was a McDonald’s All American, but didn’t come into his own until his Jr-Sr seasons. So yes, we need to be patient, but hard to do in today’s world.

Please post the score for those of us too cheap to subscribe to B10+ 😀

If he wanted anything named after him I bet he'd choose the library.
You’re probably right

They won’t name anything at IU after RMK unless his family approves it which they haven’t been willing to do.
Makes sense, the university has to respect that.

While I am all for honoring Coach Knight, I'm not sure we should take Coach McCracken's name off of it... Knight/McCracken Court might work...
And definitely a statue... I like @Artesian_86's second pic... The flat palmed clap with the intensity on his face... That's the Coach I knew...
I agree with all of this, but still think something more than a statue would be in order. UCLA’s Pauley Pavillion has the Nell & John Wooden Court and North Carolina has the Dean Dome. Coach was an icon that transcended the sport, and was considered by many as the greatest basketball coach ever, and should be honored accordingly. Oh well, that will be determined down the road.
In the meantime, RIP Coach Knight. 🏀

Reading through this thread, it seems many of us have similar experiences. My guess is that many of us are similar in age, and our fathers were from the same generation as coach. They came from a time when men were hard, and love was tough, and I mean both of those things with the highest respect. They came from a time when doing what needed to be done took precedence over doing what felt good, when trophies were reserved for winners, not participants. Like my own father, Coach taught that simply wanting something was not enough, that you had to earn it, because there was no value in something given, but there was immense value and pride in something earned. I’ll shed some tears today, some for my dad, and some for coach, but most of the tears I shed today will be for the people who never had a man like them in their lives.
Well said, my friend…..I share those exact sentiments.

Someone mentioned on hoosier.com that there needs to be a statue sculpted and erected of Coach Knight. I totally agree and I LOVE the idea! It most likely will happen sooner than later, but I sure would love to see one right outside Assembly Hall as you walk in the main entrance. I'm sure there will be one inside Cook Hall. Here are a couple photos that I would like to see turn into a memorial statue...... JMO...
Not only a statue, but the floor should be named after him. It would be on display for all to see, especially on TV.

Sad news….one of the greatest coaches ever, a basketball genius and an IU legend. Long overdue, but now’s the time to name the floor after RMK in his honor…come on Dolson, let’s get this done!

I love TJD...Great kid, great player, and a great ambassador for the program, so this is not in any way, shape or form a criticism of him...But not once in 5 years did I see him do this...
Under duress too...And judging from his teammates' reactions, not the first time they've seen it...
I think we'll be just fine
It was also a nice way to end the game.

Just watched the second half, and was encouraged by what I saw. Anthony Walker looks like a player, and Gunn looks improved. Anxious to see a healthy Kaleb Banks.

Thanks for the game updates and highlights…can’t get myself to pay for B10+ for exhibition games when I know I’m going to have to spring for Peacock during the regular season.

Sparks left the game but I think he'll be ok...
Hope so, that would be a big blow, if he’s out for an extended period.

Just curious, is the game on B10+?

Good article…lists all the IU games and cost to watch. Unfortunately, this is the future of sports on TV, so get used to it.https://www.thedailyhoosier.com/heres-what-it-will-cost-to-watch-ius-games-on-streaming-services/

Doubtful.
Several ND and B10 footballs game have been on Peacock this season, and you have to subscribe to their premium service to watch the games. I think it’s $6.99/mo. I’ve held out so far, but I may have to bite the bullet come basketball season…just won’t tell my wife.

Haslametrics for those of you that like that kind of thing ( @IU Scott?
)
Has IU at #44 nationally, and 9th in the Big 10...
Click on the Indiana link to see a full pre-season evaluation of our team...Has us as "First Out" for the tournament...
I honestly think that is the absolute floor for this team. I understand we have a lot of new pieces, but we also have a boatload of talent, not to mention depth...
Agree, probably the worst case scenario, with our ceiling being somewhere in the top 3 in the B10.

If we could just get a commitment from McNeeley and Fland, I wouldn’t have to check back in until the season starts. I could read a book or something…imagine that.
