Listening to Assembly Call and I guess some of our so called fans went to far with the criticism of the players. They talked about Twitter and how a few fans ruin things for the whole fan base. I guess they made things personal toward Stewart pretty bad. I think all of us need to realize that these players are.human just like us and they are not perfect. I know all fan bases has these lunatics but to me this is not what IU fan base should be like.
Every fan base has idiots, and the IU fan base is one of the worst. I'll stand by my position that this loss is more on the coaches than the players (whereas Northwestern is on the guys who were suspended). But, tonight, it wasn't like Parker did not give effort. He did. But, when Parker is not shooting well, he's not one of our 5 best options. The coaches should have realized that early in the game and tried someone else tonight.

The easily avoidable Northwestern loss is looming quite large.

Fairly certain we (Brownstown Central) will be 2A in football the next two seasons, and I believe basketball too.
We will be a big time factor in basketball.
Yeah. You should be one of, if not THE favorite in 2A from the South.

Miller Kopp played the most minutes for IU tonight.

And Parker did hit the tying 3 and should have put the game on OT
The game should have never been to the point where we needed a tying 3.

Like I posted last night when UNC hired Dean Smith the president said the wanted to de emphasis the basketball program. Frank McGuire got them on probation and the president thought it was time for basketball to not be as important. Well that didn't work since Dean Smith ended up as one of the all time great coaches.
If only we could have gone to the 4 corners tonight.

Guaranteed?!?! Put your money where your mouth is. I will bet $1000 that even if we miss the tournament, Mike Woodson will coach IU next year. Let's both send the money to a MOD of your choice, and the winner will get the cash at the first game next year. How about it? Let's test that guarantee.
I wouldn't send it to @bluegrassIU. He blows through a lot of money supporting an unhealthy hoof fetish. It's like a foot fetish, but involves cows.

Again, if a 42.6% 3pt shooter makes the wide open shots he's supposed to, we win easy.
Geronimo on the wing is not something a coach is going to do in that situation. Being out of position against a zone, I could argue he'd have more turnovers then offensive rebounds.
The bet was that an excellent 3pt shooter wouldn't miss 7 wide open 3's and we got unlucky and lost the bet.
It's a much safer bet then putting a young player at a position he doesn't play in a huge game.
We just didn't make wide open shots.
But, he wasn't going to make them tonight. That was obvious from the start. He wasn't rimming them out. He was clanking them with some authority.
Geronimo is at the end of his sophomore season. He's not 'young'. He may be less experienced, but there are a lot of sophomores in the Big Ten and around the country who are helping their teams win big ball games.

If XJ doesn't come back, this team is going to be really........not good next year. The coaching staff absolutely has to convince him to stay. It's their #1 off-season priority.

I’ve been begging for more Jordan and less Miller since the B1G season. Almost feel like Geronimo is being held back on developing in some regard.
A player with his talent could easily break out and be huge. But, he has to be given the opportunity. If nothing else happens this season, I hope he gets a chance to show that in the NIT.

Geronimo isn't a wing or guard and isn't a 3pt shooter. You're not putting him in for Stewart or Kopp against a zone.
None of it matters if Stewart or (not even 'and', just one of them) Kopp make the open shots they're supposed to make.
If Geronimo is playing for one of Kopp or Stewart, we get 2 or 3 more offensive rebounds. Lord knows they would have given him the opportunity. Offensive rebounds lead to points.

I mean, you can always nitpick and find some things that could have been done different.
But again, the bottom line is if Stewart and Kopp even have average shooting night on completely wide open shots then we win that game going away.
But, that's the thing. Stewart and Kopp weren't having good games. Jordan Geronimo was. Put the players on teh floor that give you the best chance to win THAT game. Maybe Saturday against Purdue that will be Stewart and Kopp. Tonight it was Geronimo with XJ and Rob capable of more minutes as well.
Geronimo only played 9 minutes.
Ron Harper played 38 minutes. Why could we only get 32 out of TJD.
Geo Baker played 36 minutes. Why could we only get 33 out of XJ. XJ plays 3 more minutes when he was taking over the game and we win.

I don't necessarily agree with all of your bullets, but let's say they're all correct for sake of conversation....
Is the standard that we should have to have a perfect game coached to win? That's pretty rough, given that coaching often falls into a gray area with decisions that are much easier judged with hindsight.
Not saying that, and I will listen to legitimate arguments for the last 3. The first one, however, is indefensible in my opinion. Each and every game stands on its own. Based on what was happening on the floor, Geronimo was going to help the team be successful tonight, The other two (Race and Stewart) were not. And, I'll even throw Durr into that since he got 5 minutes of time in the 2nd half.that could have went to Geronimo as well.
- Ride Keith Smart in the '87 championship game when he is hot
- Ride Christian Watford against UK when he is on fire
When a player is making a difference, let them play!

I'm on the more experienced side (older) of posters on here (mid-50's), and I've become pretty adept at reading things during IU games. This one never felt good to me from the opening tip. My comments in the game thread back that up.
As poorly as we shot, there were things the coaches could have done differently to win us the game
- Recognize who was making winning plays (Geronimo) and who wasn't (Race, Stewart).
- Do not sit XJ down when he's on his tear. Just don't do it. Why????
- TJD sat through an entire segment between TV timeouts. That can't happen in a must win game.
- Rob has to be on the floor at the end of the game. He hits big shots and he plays lockdown D. Does Harper hit that last 3 if Rob is on him?

I have said so when I haven't liked coaching moves. Today, I didn't see coaching moves as the issue. We got some good looks.
Rutgers core of Harper, Mulcahy, Baker, and McConnell. That's a good veteran group. We are not in that class at those positions. Their big guy has some length and competitiveness. He hit his free throws too.
That may be a veteran group. But, we did start 4 seniors and a very experienced pre-season All-American junior. Experience did not lose us this game.

I thought a turning point in the game was when X was taken out in the 2nd half when he was on a tear. Maybe he was getting a little tired. But, wait until the tear is over before having him sit. It didn't help that TJD happened to be on the bench at the same time.
Also, not enough Geronimo. He was a difference maker in the first half, but we got 5 minutes of Durr before any Geronimo in the 2nd. And, once again, Geronimo made some plays in his 3 2nd half minutes.

Absolutely PATHETIC. This team needs to be completely rebuilt. This program is a disgrace. I’ve said it before and I will say it again. We are cursed.
The program is not a disgrace. That's way over the top.

Really disappointing loss, gutted for the players.
I honestly don’t have a ton of complaints, we just missed good looks. That’s the story.
They out hustled us and played smarter than us the entire second half.

XJ is rubbing off a little on Rob.
Rob understands what's at stake. Not sure some of these guys do. I repeat. A close win here means nothing if they beat us on a neutral court in the BTT. It gives them an advantage if they are comparing the two teams.

Too long of a stretch to have both TJD and X on the bench. And, where the heck is Geronimo?
