You know two other coaches on that Cleveland staff. Bill Bielichek and Nic Saban

Yeah, and they went 5-11. So if a team with a lot of coaching talent doesn’t perform….maybe that wasn’t on the coaches. You can only polish a turd so much.

Kinda hard to take something seriously that calls the NCAA Tournament “playoffs”. Yes, I know, they mean the same thing, but it’s not common terminology. And if someone that’s compiling stats about something doesn’t know the common terms…..

Also, averages are great and all, but I’d love to see the standard deviation on those as well. It doesn’t take much to skew an average up or down with only a 4 game sample size, and it also doesn’t correlate if a team had a fairly narrow variance in the regular season and a big spread in the tournament.

Edit: lies, damn lies and statistics.

Who's gunna "make the call" or "answer the phone" whatever Liam's little slogan was... when he goes to UM? lol

    Lamest phrase I've heard

If he goes to UM, SSAH is going to friggin' roast him with some twisted version of that.

That and converting that to trash talk is just too easy.  "I make the call to your sister all the time", "Your mama always answer the phone for me...", etc etc.

I was never among those thinking we had to get Dusty May. But if Michigan gets not only May but lands McNeeley too, that's going to sting a lot of folks:

A coach I didn't necessarily want landing a recruit that didn't want us.  I ain't losing sleep over it.

In this thread and others I have been pretty down on the numbers and analytics, not because I don’t believe in them but because I do. The problem I’ve had is most are simpleton based on record (think RPI & NET) others are better but still only based on box score databases. In a tool box, it’s like using a worn out adjustable wrench, Instead of using the entire MAC Tools toolbox. Elsewhere I posted that until you have a team evaluating all of the detail utilizing advanced methodologies… well let’s just say I can get around this. Meet the 'secret weapon' in Alabama's Final Four run

    A) Now that is impressive....a predictive model that can calculate if a player's 3PT% will improve in college vs AAU.  I'd love getting under the hood of that one to see what's involved.

    B) I'm going to guess that Woody isn't exactly high on a lot of analytics, which isn't just a shame, but almost a slap in the face given that Bloomington is almost "Ground Zero" in the birth of sports analytics.

I remember after getting through several Calculus classes the first day of Differential Equations the professor said welcome to mathematics, everything else up to this point was arithmetic!

This is exactly why I got into programming.  I'm great at math, but I suck at arithmetic.  I could set up some intricate multi-step equation perfection and subtract something wrong.  So I've spent the last 10 years getting a computer to do it for me.

I’ve never been one to spend hours building my own playlist of music, mostly have let some radio station do that work for me. So I thought it would be a good thing to just say play ‘music’ to the AI. However since I usually don’t spin the dial so to speak, AI has chosen a narrow playlist for me that results in repetitive music? Now I’m having to spend time trying to teach AI I’m not as narrow as it thinks I am!?😡😡😡

I'm the opposite.  My tastes in music are so random that I've broken the YT Music AI.  "Suggested playlists" are more like "random shuffles", which I don't mind.  Guess that's what happens when you go from DMX to George Strait to the Jackson 5 to Britney Spears to European symphonic metal in one playlist 😂

Bingo! If the original intent were enforced and money limited to that, the whole landscape would be much better. The way it has become is sickening.

"The way it has become" is "the way it's always been" for decades.  It just wasn't talked about openly.  These amounts of money have always been tossed around in college athletics.

I get it. my problem does not lie within the players chasing money. When someone calls it greed, I just hope they are not hypocritical.

And they usually are.  99 times out of 100, whenever anyone scorns someone about money or blames something on "the rich", it's never about principle.  They'd do the exact same thing they're talking down to the other person about if the shoe was on the other foot.  What it all boils down to is.....there's money involved, and they're not getting any of it, plain and simple.

Also responsible for the Trent Richardson trade and adding Andre Johnson (terrible) Laron Landry (terrible) Arthur Jones/Cherilus,ton of other horrible OL/DL signings.  Wasted tons of picks himself back to back TEs first draft…little to no line help. Werner…oof! Worst gm colts have had since Irsays father.

Imagine we also kept Pierre Garçon with TY and Reggie?? Luck could have certainly used them.

The Richardson deal....ugh.  Yeah, there's no defending that one.  It does make me feel better that both Cleveland and Philly wasted that pick though.

Although it does suck to realize that 2 out of the next 10 picks that came off the board after what would have been the Colts' were......All Pro guard Joel Bitonio and All Pro DE DeMarcus Lawrence.  Gee....think either of those guys would have come in handy?

Andre Johnson I don't completely blame him for...IF he were setting AJ up to be a 2nd/3rd WR around a couple of younger guys. The only problem was that the two younger guys were Donte Moncrief and Phillip Dorsett.

    Landry...yeah, that was a bust.

And the litany of guys past their prime or never-weres: Ahmad Bradshaw, Hakeem Nicks, Johnson, Jones, Heyward-Bey....

Right, but it doesn't reset by making a move to the basket. For example, if a player is in the lane 2 seconds, catches a pass, dribbles toward the basket for 3 seconds (5 total) and puts up a shot, no violation. If he does the exact same, but instead of shooting, he passes to a cutter, it's a violation.

How many times have you ever seen the latter called?

  12. 1 minute ago, 13th&Jackson said:

Actually it doesn't reset when the player has the ball. It only resets if he makes an attempt to score. If he sets up in the lane and receives a pass, holds the ball and doesn't make a move to the basket, it's a violation.

An allowance is made to continue a count but suspend a violation ruling when, before 3 seconds, an offensive player starts to attempt to score (including dribbling to the basket). If the move is directly completed, no violation can occur. However, if the move is aborted (e.g. by a pass or fake), no exception applies.

Once again.....borderline.  Edey did make a move towards the basket before passing back out in the above example.

Instead of getting the 3rd best QB instead of the top QB is settling.

So in your mind, 31 teams "settle" every year at every position?

Also going up from 4th would cost as much as what Carolina gave up.

Table stakes are going to be the 2023 1st & 2nd, 2024 1st and either a 24 or 25 2nd.  Now, if you're the Bears, you have an offer from Carolina that includes a number one WR.  Are 5 draft slots better than a number one WR? The Colts would have to kick in something else.  Maybe instead of a 24/25 2nd, we get away with giving them multiple 3rd-5ths.

Just because the Colts were picking 4th doesn't mean that the cost would only be the 2023 1st & 2nd.  It's still going to be really steep.

I put Boiler's definition to the test.

7:24: Edey enters the lane with both feet, but almost immediately puts one foot back out.

7:23: Edey lifts the foot in the lane ever so slightly.  I'm not sure a ref could have caught it, but we'll give him the benefit of the doubt.  3 second clock reset.

7:22: Edey re-enters the lane with both feet.

7:20: Ball is passed to Edey. 3 second clock resets.

7:18: Edey passes the ball back out.

7:17: Edey puts one foot outside the lane and lifts foot in lane.  3 second clock reset.

7:16: Edey exits the lane (ever so slightly...had a part of one foot parallel and on the line, but again, I'll give benefit of the doubt). Also, shot attempt. 3 Second clock reset.

7:15 Edey re-enters the lane, both feet.

7:12 Edey puts one foot halfway outside the lane and lifts the foot in the lane. We're really skirting the line here. Potential 3 second violation.

    7:10: Video ends.

It's really borderline if you break it down second by second.  It seems like he's very aware of what the rule is and is making an attempt to push it to its limit, but is also getting several benefit of the doubt calls like at 7:12.

Last year Mixon finished 8th in rushing last year and Diggs was 7th in receiving. They combined for 17 TD's and that is a huge upgrade. You out that with the two WR they already have and that makes the Texans one of the favorites in the AFC.

Right now I would put the Colts third in the South but the Titans have made some good upgrades as well with Pollard, Ridley and Snead.

That said, Diggs is more of a sure bet than Mixon.  The reason the Bengals didn't extend/trade him was because of his age/mileage.  When RBs drop off, they drop off FAST.

The difference between Polian and Ballard is that Pian drafts were a lot better than Ballard's

    A) Can we at least all agree that thank god he isn't Grigson?

    B) Lots of successful GMs had worse drafts than Polian.  Holding a GM up against Bill Polian is like holding a QB up against Brady or Montana.
