I don't think UK doesn't go big big with this hire. They want to win tomorrow
The question is, with the NIL and portal….is putting up with those psychotic hilljacks worth it?

Scott Drew maybe.
I’m betting his replacement comes from Texas. Either Drew or Sampson.

Wonder if Hurley would take it? He has the ego to deal with Kentucky fans.
For a native northeasterner…is UK that much of an upgrade over UConn? He’s been in back to back NCGs at minimum.
And, just my opinion, but having spent more than enough time in Lexington….I’d pick Connecticut to live in.

They want him gone
That’s a “Be careful what you wish for” waiting to happen.
That’s also a “Those that don’t study history are doomed to repeat it”. They wanted Tubby gone also and got Billy Clyde instead.

Bama ain’t exactly short on cash either.

I completely forgot about that, I remember now reading about it when they lost to Oakland
It’s not a bad move on UK’s part. They’d likely save money getting rid of him, so no need for a buyout.

Mick Cronin makes sense.
It’s rare for a coach to jump from one blue blood to another. Out of the historic powers, there’s only been one coach to coach at more than one: Larry Brown, UCLA and Kansas.

Might be a stretch but any chance on Jay Wright?
They’ll make contact, but I have a feeling Jay is done for good. Can’t blame him either. Nothing left to prove coaching wise and a much cushier job as a TV analyst.

Makes sense as Blue Blood, or they go after Nate Oats
Bama has a budget surplus since Saban retired. They’ll throw the cash to Oats.

That’s nothing if Arkansas just bought Cal out. That’s only 2 years of Johns salary.
There is no buyout if he leaves willingly. Only if he were fired without cause.

Apparently Teflon John decided Lexington was just not hillbilly enough anymore.

Yeah they did...
I always remember they had an outfielder named Razor Shines...Every time the Cubs would play them when he and Tim Raines were on the team, Steve Stone, who was the Cubs analyst at the time, would remark, "We're going to play this game, Raines or Shine"
Tim Raines was familiar with razors for other reasons too *sniff*.

Cromartie, Dawson, and Raines were thought to be one of the best young outfields ever assembled...
Montreal had a habit of assembling young talent without being able to keep it.

The Oriole people forget hit 30+: Chris Hoiles. Averaged 15-20 for his career and in either 96 or 97, hits 49. Given the era…gee, think a little juice was involved there? 😂
Edit: Brady Anderson, not Chris Hoiles. Old age is getting to me.

I am picking UCONN by 20+ in this one. Unless they have an off game and purdue has a tremendous game, I just don't see UCONN losing, or even a close game. 88-67 UCONN.
If you’re accepting bets, here’s $500, I’ll take Purdue to cover 20.

Yeah, well a bunch of Hoosiers worked well for IU for a lot of years.
You guys are going to win.
My only request is can you get your guys to shave

Calipari to Arkansas?
in General Basketball Discussion

Not really. That’s UK’s way of saying “If you want to pay him, you can have him”. Even among the more sane folks in KY’s government, Cal’s contract ruffles more than a few feathers. He’s the highest paid state employee by a huge margin.
Why ask for a buyout when you’re likely going to save money in the long run on your next coach?
