Northwestern does a great job identifying talent that fits their system and can play well together. If I see they want an Indiana kid, my ears perk up. McIntosh and Barnhizer come to mind.

Honestly, maybe the two best teams in the country.

The eye test indicates we are a better football team than Michigan. But we’d still have to prove it. Washington and Nebraska will be huge games and tests. OSU, on the other hand, is just different. They’ve got 6-7 first rounders mocked in this draft alone. Physically, they look better than anyone else. They look like pros with college boys bouncing off them.

I watched some clips. Shooter, yes. Not a great athlete but he’s skilled. But what really won me over is his no-nonsense approach. He gets after it. Tough kid. It’s encouraging that the staff saw something in this kid.

It’s not the size of the city. I live in a huge city. Culturally, the NE is quite different.

I’m from Indiana and still live in the Midwest. One area I never considered when I looked for a job was the northeast. Can’t imagine I am the only midwestern guy who would think that way. UConn would be one hell of a hard sell for me.

This is the first I’ve heard of him to be honest with you but I will go look at some clips. With the loss of Harrelson, I am all for looking at other wings. I am not in the camp that we rely mainly on the portal.

Agree completely. And they “get” complementary football. There are NFL staffs that don’t get this. You get a head coach calling plays with no correlation to a coherent plan between offense and defense. Cignetti and his staff understand all this. Look at how the units react to each other. It’s synergistic and not separate.

Coach Cig seems to really like Bostad. They are like two peas in a pod as to how to coach football. You can see the respect. Iron sharpens iron. Having both units practice against each other, and our coaching for both fronts, have been big differentiators from the past.

The one thing with DM is at 6’5 he’s a good red zone target where the field is compressed and there isn’t the same space to operate. Maybe we see some more TE action in those situations without him. Horton. Maybe a guy like Sam West who both Allen and Cig have liked.

I’m not watching the coach’s tape but if you casually watch Cooper, Price, and Cross, look at how good they are technically. Really sharp breaks. The net result is they separate. I’ve hardly seen that kind of route running from DM. If you are in need of a catch, and look at how effective we’ve been on third down (knock on wood), these are the receivers you need when it’s time to dig deep. If I had to guess, that’s been pointed out to DM. He’s been outplayed as far as I’m concerned. Cig is process oriented. He recruits players with that mindset. It’s not an accident that he brought those other receivers in.

I guess he did it now because he hasn’t played 4 games yet and that way this year won’t be counted against him in terms of eligibility. I don’t worry about players who can’t compete and beat out others. Crybabies leave when others are outplaying him. Saratt, Cooper, Price, Cross, and others. Route running, separation, hands, etc., aren’t they superior to DM?

As great as Cig is as a head coach, his staff is a huge part of that. The defense is fast to the ball, and well designed. The offensive staff had some excellent play designs and had a great game plan. The special teams have been sound. Having a great staff is a huge function of the head coach.

Orji sounds like a name Beavis and Butthead would have a field day with. He plays qb like a safety.

Did you see the end of the Minnesota vs Michigan? I am not a Minnesota fan in any way but they got screwed. The B1G needs to knock it off with the favoritism toward OSU and UM. The days of needing money for the conference by propping up OSU and UM nationally should be over. With the playoff system expanded, it’s wholly unnecessary. It looks cartoonish, like pro wrestling.
