Oh I agree. Professionalism should always prevail. Since it didn’t today we get to toss it around a bit. The video is the only thing I have to go on as I wasn’t there. I hear the commentary of Howard appears to be avoiding the handshake line. Then you see Howard while looking straight forward make an attempt to breeze though the line without incident. Only, he was stopped by Gard. Gard, who judging by the bobbling of his head, wasn’t singing the Michigan fight song. Call it what you will. I see Howard make a mistake but a mistake that could have been avoided had Gard not made it a point to not let him walk on by. Which, in this particular case and in my opinion, makes both parties at fault. Just because Howard did the biting, doesn’t mean the taunting gets overlooked.

Maybe I’m missing something here. I haven’t once seen anyone say that Howard wasn’t in the wrong. What I have seen is similar to folks blaming the dog for biting. Is that correct? I think everyone single person here has said that Howard was wrong.

I actually think the whole paragraph is exceptional

How do we know what Gard was trying to do? There isn’t any need in anyone taking offense to this conversation. None of us were there. There isn’t a transcript of what was exchanged. Just some friendly bored on a Sunday chatter.

I think the timeout blame and Gard being a short fella are being well over played lol. No doubt there was a building frustration and likely player mouthing (remember the FU towards the IU bench from Davidson) that didn’t help. There was more to it than a timeout. Howard was wrong for throwing a hand but Wisconsin isn’t an innocent victim.

I can get behind this

From this video Howard was clearly trying to avoid a confrontation. First by not participating in the handshake. Then by trying to do a quick blow by. Gard stopped him and exchanged pleasantries. Howard will get the more severe penalty but Gard provoked it. Poke a bear and get eaten is your own ignorance. Both parties at fault but had Gard not stopped Howard then this would be a non issue.

Thought this was classic. The tweet under this on my feed was Vitale pleading to cancel the handshake line all together over this one instance lol. My oh my what kind of brain cell killing substance is in the water these days.

The fact that Gard thinks he can provoke someone without incident explains why his players do what they do.

Agree. Ohio State controls the last 12 minutes of the game and wins by 16. -Unless, the guards drive and get to the line (officiating applies here as well), Trace/Race have monster games and defense leads to quick offense. Then maybe IU has a chance. Edit: bench. The bench contributes big as well. I think that’s another focal point. With the Izzo style second string sub pattern, the offense goes stagnant.

Anyone wishing for Trace to be gone is a few shy of a full deck. The kid is all IU and the number one focus for opposing teams film prep. I actually feel bad for his experience while at IU. I like the post game comment from Johnny Davis about Trace being a great player but not having much help around him.
