On the suspected roster for next season assuming everyone stays put but the seniors and Jalen, who is going to be the shooters next season? It’s not like there are an abundance of shooters on this years team. Who is a guy with the ability to create his own offense? I don’t see anyone left behind that has shown the ability to do either on a level to win big basketball games. I’m going with Malik in the post because I think he can develop into a Trace style player. I’m taking Trey for his all around game, experience and leadership abilities. Who’s left that can help win games in this league? Even if X returns and I’d assume that’s already a given, I don’t see a bench that can give you 20 points and defensive stops let alone a starting 5 capable of competing at a high enough level to win games in the B1G. Offensively, we have the best player in the country with arguably the best freshman in the country and it’s been tough to win the games they should. Both those guys are on their way out. Defensively we have one of the most experienced starting 5 in the league. None of which will be here next season. Still post season basketball to be played but just some thoughts floating around. I think the portal door should swing both ways for this club if next season is to be on the upward trajectory.

As much as I’d love to be loyal to all the players, championships aren’t going to be won on sentimental feelings alone. Maybe others have but I haven’t seen anything from Bates, Banks, Gunn, Duncomb or anyone off the bench for that matter that makes me believe they will be significant contributors next season, veteran or not. I like the dog in Galloway. I like the potential in Reneu. I’m hopeful for Newton and Cupps. XJ potentially returning. Other than that, I’m fine with a fresh, perfectly assembled crew from the portal.

I can see Jett Howard going off and scoring 6-7 threes if we let them do want they want like the Iowa game. It’s all or nothing for them at this point. A win could catapult them for a run that could land them a NCAA bid. I’m sure they have been made aware of that. IU cant play soft today at all.

I don’t see it at all. With the loss of Trace and Jalen, you’ve lost 98% of your scoring ability. I’m hoping miracles come in the form of the transfer portal if we are going to get above mid pack in the B1G next season. Right now, if not for TJD, we would be fighting for air at the bottom of the ocean. Edit to add: Also, can’t forget about Race and Kopp and the defensive presence alone that these two currently bring. Maybe not as consistent as we’d like but that can be said about the entire team defensively. Their loss isn’t nearly as massively huge as Trace and Jalen but will be a void to fill none the less and I don’t see anyone on the bench currently with similar strengths. Maybe Geronimo for Race.

Cupps is a skilled true point guard and could very well be good enough to run the collegiate point. He is at 38% 3 PT, 48% FG and 91% FT. He averages 2 TO, 2 ST and just over 6 assist. I see no real chance that Jalen returns next season. Would be nice for us (IU) but I think not so much ideal for him if he gets a good draw. But yeah, Jalen is a combo guard and on a different level offensively than both Cupps and XJ. I wouldn’t Trade him for 2 XJ
