Wildly hot take 20 minutes into the season with not enough evidence to support:

Not sure I understand Galloway getting the minutes that he has. Just don’t really get what he offers that others don’t, and his capabilities seem limited(no outside shot, can often play out of control).

We're much better offensively in half court with Galloway on the court.  He knows what to do with and without the ball.

I didn't grow up an IU fan, so I don't have the ingrained Purdue hatred that a lot of people here have, but I still think they're overrated. I will be surprised if they compete for the BIG title. I think OSU and Michigan will be at the top. By tournament time MSU and IU will be right there with them, but both of us will lose a few winnable games early in the conference, so we won't have a shot at the regular season crown.

I agree with you on Illinois - I'd say they're a bubble team. They'll make it, but not by that much. Northwestern is more of a true bubble team and might not make it.

We can take care of your lack of ingrained Purdue hatred.  But PU will be very good this year.  Think they only lack a PG.

Not at all. First, Stevens isn't the Celtics coach anymore, so their bad start from a coaching perspective isn't on him.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad Stevens is still with the Celtics front office and I'm glad Woodson is with IU, but Stevens is still one of the best coaches in basketball.

He was great with the Celtics, and the fans/media blaming him for last season was ridiculous. Ainge built a top heavy roster, then the team was decimated by Covid and injuries.

Celts had lots of draft picks, good players, etc. and Stevens couldn't even get to the championship game let alone win the NBA crown.  He finally lost the team as a coach, and he wound up upstairs.  We'll see if he is more successful upstairs than he was as an NBA coach.

Yesterday was really the first game all year where I thought the defense looked much worse than they should have. Well, I guess we could throw OSU in there, but they do that to most people. I don't care what injuries we had, Maryland hadn't scored more than 17 points in a B1G game all year. It was a really poor defensive game.

My biggest issue with the defense is that we're really struggling at creating turnovers, but part of that is other teams playing with the lead. Hard to create a lot of chaos when the other team is ahead all the time. Even with playing behind, we should be much better than 97th in the country at creating takeaways after being one of the best last year.

My biggest concern is what next year's defense will look like. Almost the entire starting defense are seniors. Depending on who uses their extra year, or if anybody goes pro (Mullen), we could be in for an entirely new starting defense next year.

Yeah, offense pretty good yesterday, but defense took the day off.

I don't even want to think about the defense next year.  Yikes!

I had an interesting conversation with one of my buddies down at IU over the weekend.. same grade as Trayce and they’re good friends.. we all went to high school together.. he told me that Trayce said Tamar Bates is the best player on the team.. and based off everyone I have heard so far.. he came I’m right in with a dog mentality and extremely confident.. I hope what he’s been able to do this off season translates into the games! Would be awesome if he came in and put the B10 on notice! He already seems very polished as it is and I know he’s only going to get even better and more confident as the season progresses. I just thought that was an interesting statement they Trayce said! Has me excited!

    Thanks for the report.

I'm getting even more excited, if that's possible, about the upcoming season!

I think most of us expected Bates to be good, but it was a question of how quickly he develops.  Sounds like he's on the fast track.

It's weird when you hear fired coaches like Archie talk and realize that they're actually pretty smart and likeable.  I thought the same thing when Mike Davis was interviewed a few years ago.

Coaching at this level is really really hard, and for whatever reason, Archie just wasn't up to the task.  The best reason I can give is his offensive scheme just didn't work.  Perhaps non-coincidentally, it didn't work for his brother either in the last few years either.

Scheme-wise his defense had some holes, also.  It's very hard to learn, vulnerable to the 3, and too passive off the ball (can't play passing lanes much in this D).
