  1. btownqb posted Jon Rothstein's tweet that 17 of the 20 starters on the final 4 teams had played with their them the previous year.

It is likely that this will be so for at least 4 of IU's 5 starters.

Furthermore, IU will be a very experienced team next year.  X, Race, and Kopp all have four years of college ball under their belt already.  TJD has 3 years and Leal, Galloway, and Geronimo have 2.

I haven't done any checking but this has to be one of the most experienced teams IU has had in a long time.  IMO this is a very favorable factor for IU next year, and a major reason for us to feel good about our chances of winning B1G and doing well in the NCAAT.

This...and leadership...tough for a freshman to be heard in a lineup with a lot of upper classmen, but I seem to remember a freshman guard who led IU to a final 4 with a pretty experienced cast around him...

Another thing that I saw mentioned often in assessments of him was that he has often "played up" and adapted his game to what the team needed.  But he is considered a "true" PG who can play SG due to his size.

Jalen Hood-Schifino, true, has not yet arrived on campus, but he was the primary ball-handler for the HS National Champion.  He is coming in similarly ranked to Bates, but his build is already college-ready whereas Bates was “a little light in the butt” (Woodson).

Hood-Schifino also has another advantage coming in as a frosh over some in the past: his game is steady, solid and others centered (is very content distributing, not needing to make the highlight play).

The schedule and level of competition JHS played was against mostly D1 committed players, not typical HS players.

And the elephant in the room: 5-star players want to play in year one.  If there is to be a wait your turn, earn it approach, regardless of how ready a player is (Bates showed flashes but was not quite ready last season), it may be tougher to get a commitment from such players down the road.

    Ahhh.  The "butt factor".

Given Woodys two unit approach, if JHS starts, I think IU still has a question mark as another PG.   TG could fill it for a bit and JHS if he’s in, but this is where Rob was perfect last year.

And agree - shooting will still be the reason IU loses games.

Even as freshman JHS way way better than Sr. Rob.

Agree on the starters being X, JHS, TB, RT and TJD. This second unit brings experience and depth too.

Only overall holes I see are perimeter shooting (hoping guys improve from last year) and a backup PG.  Would Leal play any PG?  He did his freshman year.

JHS a CG and a very capable PG.  For very short periods of time Galloway would be satisfactory as PG.

I'm the same way with J.R. Konieczny, who went to Notre Dame.  I thought he was perfect tall sniper for IU.  Really wanted him to sign with us.

He averaged 1.6 points per game.

He may end up being great.  We'll see.  He did shoot 5 for 6 from the field for the season, for 83%.

I thought Matt Cross was perfect for IU, too.

Actually, I have a long list of guys I hoped would sign with us, but didn't, and it was for the best.

    Abraham Moses?!
