Hunter Green proves that a pitcher needs to be able to do more than throw 100mph to be a good pitcher. He has a 5.89 era and now has given up 21 home runs. So far tonight he has given up a 3 run homer in the second inning.

You're right.  I went to Reds v. Brew Crew in Cincy game a few Fridays ago and Green was on the mound.  He had good stuff.  His fast ball was 97-99 MPH and off speed pitches 87-89 MPH.  He didn't give up much, but he gave up a 3 run HR after 2 straight singles and a solo home run.

In fact all the runs scored in the game were on HRs.  Several situations late in game when in the "old days" a bunt would have been laid down and wasn't.  Votto pinch hit with runners on the corners and down 5-4 with 2 outs in bottom of 9th, but he could only produce a long fly ball to the center field warning track.

I liked the ball park.  We got good seats on the 3d  base line about 12 rows behind Brew Crew dugout.

I haven't seen any conjecture on that but from what I see, Notre Dame gets 15 mil from NBC and around 11 mil from the ACC right now.

In that case the Irish would be making a big mistake by not joining B1G or SEC.  The $26 million not anything close to what they would get in either conference.

You know what’s going to be a real pain?  When BTN has on a Big 10 Elite on the careers of Matt Leinart and Reggie Bush. I get that Nebraska is in the B1G now but doing those episodes on the glory days under Osborn rubs me wrong. They weren’t in the B1G when those things happened. Now we have two more schools to have those on. Even more when we add Washington, Oregon, ND, the University of Phoenix Online, DeVry , or whoever else is in the pipeline.

Just for you and Scott the B1G network is going to put on a new show called "Old School Big Ten" or "When the Big Ten was really only 10 teams".

I know a couple people who went to Rutgers.  Literally no Rutgers alum or anyone in NJ for that matter cares about college sports at all.  It's just not a thing.  People go there to drink and party.  They don't watch probably because they never won anything.   No idea what they add to the B1G.

    Drinking and partying.

A lot of people in my day went to IU for that.

I don't care how much those sports won,  I am talking about just losing the luster off of what it means to be in a conference.  I am talking about how are the other sports going to travel to LA.  Might as well just get rid of conferences and have everyone as independents and just put the final nail in what college athletics is supposed to be about.

PS, no I don't think there should be a jump ball after every basket.

    So only in women's basketball?

Speaking of two sports, Quinn Buckner.  Not a quarterback but a DB (safety, I think?).  I was too young to pay attention to him in football but my understanding is that he was the real deal.  I think he was extremely highly recruited in basketball including by John Wooden, Michigan etc.  One of the most consequential IU athletes ever.

Buckner played 2 years of football at IU as a safety and punt and kick-off returner.  He was 2d team B1G at safety his sophomore year.  Quinn's father was a backup on IU's 1945 undefeated team.  Quinn was Chicago area player of the year in both football and basketball as well as an AA in HS in both sports.  He was drafted by the Washington Redskins, but he told them he would be playing basketball.  Guess that turned out OK.

He had his own "walk-in" song.  "The Mighty Quinn" by Dylan which the IU band played early and often.

"Come all without, come all within.

You'll not see nothing like the Mighty Quinn."

Will TJD and Race embrace that concept?  For example, let's assume the 80 minutes at the 4/5 spots are split as follows:

    TJD - 25

    Race - 20

    Renault - 20

    JG - 15

Do those guys embrace that type of minute distribution for the long term good of the team?  Or, are 3 or 4 of them expecting more?

That said, I can't fathom TJD only getting 25, but splitting those 80 minutes is definitely going to be a challenge for Woodson, especially if Geronimo does not get any minutes at the 3.

In many of the preseason games you can use the 25/20/20/15 split and tighten it up for the big preseason games and conference games.

I know this is the experience thread, and I'm all on-board with that and agree that it is huge that we have so much coming back! No disagreement there at all.

With that said, I think a lot of us are sleeping on JHS and Reneau. If these were Indiana kids people would be so hyped. Going by rankings, this is like having Yogi and TJD in the same class.

I realize because of the experience returning that minimizes some of the hype, and I think there is an element that they don't get hype because they're not Indiana kids so we don't know as much about them.

But, I'd expect both to have a big (big is relative) impact.

I think JHS and X will be one of the toughest defensive guard tandems IU has had since Wilkerson and Buckner.

Your post does get into the issue of depth.  We have always talked about depth, but it never panned out.  This coming year we will be really deep.  So one would wonder how CMW will use that and how much of an impact it will have.

Call me crazy but I think we may win it all. Find a way to knock down some 3’s and we will be hard to beat. No injuries please (looking at you Clif).

"It's so nice to be insane because no one expects you to explain."

But Andy Katz apparently agrees with you as he has IU at #7 for next season.
