  1. Fun Fact:   Kenesaw Mountain Landis, the first Commissioner of Baseball, was widely credited with bringing credibility to the game of baseball after the "Blacksox" scandal.

He was born in Ohio but grew up in Indiana (Logansport and Delphi).  His real name was Kenesaw Mountain Landis (at that time Kenesaw and Kennesaw were both accepted spellings).  His parents were unable to agree on a name.  So they named him after the battle, the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain, where his father was seriously wounded fighting for the Union in Sherman's drive to Atlanta.

If practice wears you down then you aren't recovering adequately.  Recovery requires hydration, good diet and rest. So eat, sleep, sit on your ass, and by god take some naps.

I'm a superstar when it comes to naps!

As I said, the announcers said that Woody had put them through a bit more than a shoot around before that, and I think there was a method to his madness.

He didn't want them to be fresh. He knew he was going to be playing kids that normally didn't get significant minutes, and that the opponent was not high caliber. He knew the talent gap alone would have us winning, but I think he wanted to see who would battle through the fatigue and play hard. He's talked about "motor" a lot lately. Ok, let's see who's got it...

The other thing I'm sure he stresses to kids who want to think they played well... Ok, you played well against subpar competition. But that's not who you're going to be measured against... It's the kids from Arizona and Kansas who'll be competing with you for the next level. You have to prove yourself against that competition, and I'm trying to get you ready for that by urging you to play hard against everybody...

This is an old CRMK tactic/theme.  The practices are hard and physical.  So the game seems easy.

We heard that for 4 years with CAM. I just do not see the same issues with some other programs that have plagued us for the majority of the last 20 years.

You could be right.  We'll have to see.  But I see in CMW a mature guy who can develop his talent, handle the x's and o's, and relate to his players.

Big difference IMO because we have seen this movie for the past several years. I am just pulling for a different ending

The data is slim, but this team did improve during the year last season and was playing at its peak at the end of the year.

It's more like this team needs to make plays when he gets them the ball off a double team...

Vitale said it, Coach Woodson said it...

TJD is a substantially better passer this year than last.  He's averaging almost 1 more assist per game than last year.  If he has a jump shot at 15' or further out, he hasn't shown it consistently at this time.  We have lots of guys that are scoring options, but we need 1 and probably 2 with X out to take over and be consistent scorers that require lots of attention.

  7. This team is substantially better than last year.

Year       KenPom #    KenPom OE    KenPom DE

    21-22           48                95                   24

    22-23           17                30                   23

There is only 1 B1G team rated ahead of us this year.  But there are a handful nipping at our heels.

We face 2 big challenges.   First, opponents have figured out how to slow us down offensively.  Second, we are losing X, a top player for awhile and maybe the season.  The team and coaches have to meet those challenges.

I predict 1-4 in B1G and 1 or 2 wins in the tourney.

Let me ask you this, what did you think our record would be at this point of the season.

The record alone is not the problem.  It's that in the 3 loses they never had enough going for them to have a chance to win the game.

Flory Bidunga starting out strong.  I know he has his own thread, but thought I'd put this here instead:

Game one: 34 points and 11 rebounds.

Game two: 22 points, 10 rebounds and 12 blocked shots for his third career triple-double.

He made 26 of 30 shots (86.7%) over the two games.

For the season, he is averaging 21.4 points, 13 rebounds and 4.8 blocks and shooting 80.7%.

He'll have to pick up on those blocks if he wants to average a double-double for the season.

  10. This is the 2d game that we've suffered an early run that put us away.  I'm sure having JHS out was a factor, but I don' t know how much.  We have to find a way to avoid these streaks so we have a chance to pull out the victory.

I think X getting 2 fouls early really hurt.  I think pressure on the guards is the way to slow up UA's offense, but with JHS out and X on the bench we couldn't do that.  I don't think double teams would work.

Yes, the refs were lousy but we have to learn to defend w/o fouling too much.  We had the same problem v. Rutgers.

I don't think we can put much of this on TJD.  We need a second consistent scorer.  We have a lot of options but no one who can do this consistently.

Amazing to me that it's only the 3rd triple double in program history. Things to clean up but a solid win. Very easily could have been a 26 point win. I think we still miss JHS more than we thought.

Tamar Bates. You keep doing that Big Papa.

Grace Berger has 3 triple doubles so far in her career at IU.

TJD is going to have to step it up!
